The annual subscription has also seen a rise, going from $229 to $395, marking an increase of nearly 72%. Elon Musk’s company X has recently increased the price of its premium tier, X Premium+, significantly. Subscription cost for X Premium+ in the United States has jumped from $22 per month to $40 per month, which represents an 82% increase.
The price hike is not uniform across all markets; for instance, in India, the pricing for X Premium+ remains unchanged at Rs 1,750 monthly and Rs 18,300 annually. However, the increase in the US and other markets has sparked reactions among users, with posts on X reflecting frustration and criticism regarding the high cost, especially without corresponding improvements in service quality or user experience. This price adjustment follows the launch of xAI’s latest AI model, Grok 3, which is exclusively available to Premium+ subscribers.
This move comes amidst broader discussions about the platform’s valuation, user engagement, and content moderation policies, which have been contentious since Musk’s acquisition. The decision to increase the price is part of Musk’s strategy to shift X’s revenue model more towards subscriptions, aiming to bolster creator payments and reduce reliance on advertising revenue, which has seen declines.
Are Indians affected by X’s price hike?
According to the pricing of Premium+ plan for Indian users, the amount remains the same. On a monthly basis, the plan will cost ₹1,750 and it will cost ₹18,300 on an annual basis.
The basic plan will cost ₹243.75 per month or ₹2,590.48 per year while the mid-tier Premium plan has been priced at ₹650 per month and ₹6,800 per year.
Grok 3 available only to X Premium+ User’s
The newly released Grok 3 chatbot model is exclusively available to X Premium+ users. xAI is placing some of Grok 3’s advanced capabilities behind a separate SuperGrok plan, which can be accessed via the Grok app. However, only select features like “deep search” and “reasoning” will be accessible under the Premium+ plan.
